Wrestling Tips and Basics: Single Leg Takedown, Cael Sanderson style

OK, so this one is NOT for the advanced wrestler. However, the take down, whatever the type of form, is still the number one way for a wrestler to attack. The old cliche phrase comes into play here: the best defense is a good offense. If you don’t have a good offense, it goes without saying that you aren’t going to score. If you don’t score, you aren’t going to win the match. So here are some basic steps to a single leg take down, thanks to Cael Sanderson.

Setup

Setup

First is the setup. Notice that the opponents head is looking down and you have control. Remember, were the hips and head go is where you are going to go. So push him around and throw him off so he doesn’t have a good defense.

Change Levels and Shoot

Change Levels and Shoot

Next, before you shoot, change levels. Get your hips and head under his. Notice how much of a level change Cael has done. Get down! Once you have gotten down, not before and not in the same moment, shoot in. Train yourself to shoot past the person. Be sure to keep your elbows in, almost touching. This is good defense; it makes it harder for the opponent to “cow hook” you. Reach in and grab his legs and don’t let go.Also, notice where Cael’s head is. As opposed to a double leg take down, you want your head on the inside, not the outside.

Circle Around

Circle Around

Circle around, and change levels again, this time lifting the leg up as you come.

All in the Hips

Remember that it’s all in the hips! Get behind your opponent, circling around and keeping a TIGHT hold on the leg, getting ready to use it as leverage.

Keep that leg

Left the leg to your hip level. Secure it and reach for your opponent’s hips and get ready to shoot THROUGH them. The next series of shots show shooting through the hips and bringing your opponentto the mat for two points.

College Wrestling Network

I was reading in WIN magazine – literally 5 seconds ago – and found a very interesting link on their site to the new CollegeWrestlingNetwork site. This looks like it’s going to be big news! They have authors and writers coming from Buckeye Wrestling.com; InterMat, Michigan Grappler.com, RevWrestling.com, Takedown Radio, Tech-Fall, TheMat.com, The Wrestling Mall, WIN Magazine and Wrestling411, with more coming. Seriously it’s going to be sick. It’s basically a lot of links from a bunch of different websites, giving you the up to date things across the nation in News, Features, Results, Rankings, Photos, and Audio/Video, all with links pointing back to the original sites.

They will be covering live matches it sounds like it early December. They will have the Iowa vs Iowa State match, as well as the Oklahoma vs Oklahoma St. match. They will start the live coverage, though, with the the Las Vegas invitational. Should be interesting to see how they cover such a large event live!

I checked out the site at CollegeWrestlingNetwork, which is up and running. However, it seems pretty basic at the moment. They are planning, however, to make a widget so that other designers and web sites, like WrestleFattie, will be able to have that content show up easily on their pages and in their content. So keep tuned and you will soon see that widget here on our pages! Or, you might just see WrestleFattie on their pages!

Another Programmer Shout-Out!

K so earlier, we did a shout out to the programmers who fixed the site. The site still isn’t up 100%, but it’s at 99.9%. The only thing that isn’t working are the options, meaning if you need to order something that is customizable, you’ll need to call us because the drop-down menus aren’t working. But don’t worry!! They’re working on it!

So anyways, I hade been bugging my programmer to get something up on my blog so that I could upload themes and plugins with out a FTP client for a while. Today I got a text from my programmer at 7:45 in the morning saying that he had added something to the backend of the blog that I would like to check out. I got into the office and was excited to see what it was. True to my hopes, dreams and expectations, he had found a plugin that lets me upload themes and other plugins effortlessly without FTP. What does all this mean for you? Well, I can now add new themes instead of the boring original WordPress theme that was here before. Also, I can add cool new pictures that I have on my Flickr account. (Be sure to check back often on that one! UVU’s wrestling team’s first match is tomorrow night!) I can also add some audio to the background, which I am still trying to figure out. Pretty much, again, the programmers have saved our butts here at WrestleFattie.com! Thanks again, and let us know when you get those options working!

Site Design

K, so I didn’t realize this until just a couple days ago, but when we brought over the blog to here, it left all of our links at the old address. Not a big deal unless you had a couple dozen links with no way of retrieving them. I’m working on getting them back up, so if you want any up there, let me know. I’ll look into them and let you know.

New Design for WrestleFattie.com!!

Check out the new design of the site! We are super stoked to announce what we have kept under wraps for well under a month. Just in time for the upcoming wrestling season, we unveil our new design for WrestleFattie. We have spent the past month working with the design, trying to make it as easy as possible for checking out, getting the best setup with shipping and much more! We hope you like it as much as we do. There are still small changes to be done, but we thought we would be able to launch the site as is. Let us know what you think…

Shout out to my bro…

I know I have put in a lot of videos this past week, but here is one that my brother made. He has his own site selling any possible board that you can put under your feet. This video is down in St. George, UT. It’s of a inland skim boarding competition held every year. Enjoy!!
