Wrestling to Make a Difference

Have you ever wanted to make a difference? When you buy product at WrestleFattie, you are. There are hundreds of thousands , if not millions, of people around the world that are stuck in a cycle of poverty. For them, escape is near impossible. Because of limited abilities, those in poverty are not likely to become leaders in their communities or in the world. They are more likely to find themselves in need of welfare help. They will marry and rear families who will continue in the same cycle that they have known.

With good employment skills,  young men and women can rise out of the poverty they and generations before them have known. They will better provide for their families. They will repay their loans that made it possible for them to escape poverty, making it possible for others to be blessed as they have been blessed. It will become a revolving fund.

From the earnings of one of the charities we support, the perpetual education fund, loans will be made to ambitious young men and women,  so that they may borrow money to attend school. Then when they qualify for employment, it is anticipated that they will return that which they have borrowed together with a small amount of interest designed as an incentive to repay the loan.

The plan may later be extended to training for the professions.

It will not be a welfare effort, commendable as those efforts are, but rather an education opportunity. The beneficiaries will repay the money, and when they do so, they will enjoy a wonderful sense of freedom because they have improved their lives not through a grant or gift, but through borrowing and then repaying. They can hold their heads high in a spirit of independence.

Where there is widespread poverty among our people, we must do all we can to help them to lift themselves, to establish their lives upon a foundation of self-reliance that can come of training. Education is the key to opportunity. This training must be done in the areas where they live. It will then be suited to the opportunities of those areas. And it will cost much less in such places than it would if it were done in the United States or Canada or Europe.

It is our solemn obligation, it is our certain responsibility to “succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees”. We must help those around the world to become self-reliant and successful.

Finally!!

I’m here!! A couple people have emailed me and asked if I was going to make it to the tourney this year. This is the first time that I’ve been able to and I’ve had plans to make it since November. So yes, I had plans. I left Provo yesterday at 6:00 PM MST. Thanks to Wyoming weather and road closures, I didn’t get to Omaha until just now. The weather shut down a 100 mile stretch of I-80, so here’s the route we had to take.

Worst. Drive. Ever. That’s right. State highways at 3 in the morning up to Casper and then back down. Well, the good thing is my photographer and I are both safe, the fourth session starts in just under an hour and a half and the bad news is my photographer is asleep as I write this… We’ll be there tonight. Look for pics on the FaceBook page tonight along with some more blog posts!! (These ones about wrestling, not random travels…)

California Politics – Can’t help it

Yes, this is one of those cheesy emails that you get forwarded. But it made too good of a point not to post it. I’m originally from California and I was actually able to recently go out there and visit some friends; I love the state! I have seen Pelosi and what she stands for and I think this hits it right on the head. Leave some comments and let me know what ya’ll think! (Good or Bad!)

On a Saturday afternoon, in Washington, D. C., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s aide met with the Cardinal at St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
He told the Cardinal that Nancy Pelosi would be attending the next day’s sermon, and he asked if the Cardinal would kindly point out Pelosi to the
congregation and say a few words that would include calling Pelosi a saint.

The Cardinal replied, “No. I don’t really like the woman, and there are issues of conflict with the Catholic Church over certain of Pelosi’s views.”
Pelosi’s aide then said, “Look. I’ll write a check here and now for a donation of $100,000 to your church if you’ll just tell the congregation you
see Pelosi as a saint.” The Cardinal thought about it and said, “Well, the church can use the money,
so I’ll work your request into tomorrow’s sermon.”

As Pelosi’s aide promised, House Speaker Pelosi appeared for the Sunday sermon and seated herself
prominently at the edge of the main aisle. And, during the sermon, as promised, the Cardinal pointed out that House
Speaker Pelosi was present. Then the Cardinal went on to explain to the congregation — “While Speaker
Pelosi’s presence is probably an honor to some, she is not my favorite person. Some of her views are contrary to those of the church, and she tends
to flip-flop on many other views. Nancy Pelosi is a petty, self-absorbed hypocrite, a thumb sucker, and a nit-wit. Nancy Pelosi is also a serial liar,

a cheat, and a thief. Nancy Pelosi is the worst example of a Catholic I have ever personally witnessed. She married for money and is using it to lie to the American people. She also has a reputation for shirking her Representative obligations both in Washington, and in California . She simply is not to be trusted.”

The Cardinal completed his view of Pelosi with, “But, when compared to Senators Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, and John Kerry, House
Speaker Pelosi is a saint.”
